What was originally called Sylvan was renamed Citrus Heights in 1910 when a real estate agent subdivided the area into 10-acre lots and gave the developing community its now-iconic name. The name reflects the prominence of citrus cultivation in this part of Sacramento County during an era when California's fruit industry was transforming both the landscape and the regional economy.
